"On December 10, the CBB inaugurated a small exhibition on human rights. This had the Holocaust as its theme. At the entrance of this exhibition we can find several posters with images referring to the theme. In our opinion the poster that caught the most attention was one that included an image from a personal diary.
Further ahead we can see several pieces of clothing, such as shoes, shirts, glasses, hair. These had as their main function to represent the clothes that were removed from the dead bodies. Above these pieces we can see some card strips with the numbers of the dead (Jews, gypsies, homosexuals,…).
During the visit to the exhibition we also found some films and books referring to the theme, among them we highlight “The boy in the striped pajamas” (film) and “The Diary of Anne Frank” (book) because we think they are the ones that best approach the theme .
Finally, we also had the opportunity to view a video on the subject."

The 7th grade students, from Escola EB2,3 Gonçalo Mendes da Maia, with the teacher António Carlos Carvalho, from the discipline of Information and Communication Technologies, join the schools of the country and the Memoshoá Association in Lisbon, to remember a caustic, controversial theme, but very pertinent in the scope of HUMAN RIGHTS - International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of the Holocaust - January 27th.
After having, in the 1st Period, carried out research and investigation work oriented on the theme of Citizenship/Human Rights/Holocaust, in the ICT discipline, the 2nd Period gave way to the realization of Postcards prepared in the GIMP Image Editing tool and chosen some, of the many created, for public display. They are on display in our School Library. They will also be on our group's Facebook at:

Ponte da Barca Secondary School
“Art in the Holocaust” is the title of the exhibition which, until the 11th of February, is open to the public, in the atrium of Block C of the Secondary School of Ponte da Barca.
The exhibition takes place as part of the celebration of the International Day in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust and is promoted by the Disciplinary Group of History, in collaboration with Yed Vashem, the School Library and the team of the National Plan for Arts and Cinema of the Grouping of Schools from Ponte da Barca.
The inauguration took place on the day that marked the 77th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp (January 27th) and featured a musical moment, in charge of Owen Chippendale (12th grade), who performed a saxophone theme, and with interventions by the Group Director, Carlos Louro, and the History teacher, Maria José Gonçalves.
Both drew attention to the barbarism of the Holocaust, which killed millions of Jews and people from other minorities, and to the importance of all of us reviving the memory of this horrible page of Humanity, so that something similar never happens again.
Another idea underlined had to do with the power of art and thought, the last strongholds of freedom, which no one can take away from us, and which, in extreme situations, end up being the only refuges that feed us the hope of survival.
“Learning from the Holocaust”
The celebration of the International Day in Memory of the Victims of the Holocaust also had the collaboration of the City Council, which provided the municipal auditorium, in the Casa de Santo António do Buraquinho, for the exhibition of the film “Uma Turma Difícil”, by the French filmmaker Marie- Castille Mention Schaar, aimed at 9th grade students. It is a film that refers to the issue of the Holocaust and its impact on today's young people and that integrates the platform of the National Cinema Plan.
The School Library also exhibited some works of universal literature that allude to the theme of the Holocaust, having made available a leaflet alluding to the event, which was given to students after the film screening.
The Group's National Arts and Cinema Plan suggested some activities that could be promoted during the fifteen days of the exhibition, based on the creation of an interdisciplinary script in which students are challenged to implement the project "Learning from the Holocaust - Art in the Holocaust ”, to preserve the memory of this tragic genocide and to deepen the principles of tolerance, non-discrimination, mutual respect and the promotion of human dignity.
Researching the theme of the Holocaust in art (literature, theatre, painting, music…) is one of the proposed tasks, with the hope that, as a final product, the creation of posters will result in the creation of another exhibition open to the community.
